Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. There are two types of dentures: partial dentures and full dentures.
Types of Dentures and their Pros and Cons
Partial dentures
Partial dentures are a way to replace partially lost teeth with dentures.
The denture is attached to the remaining teeth with a spring or wire.
Pros

Cons
・Places pressure on the remaining teeth

Full dentures
Full dentures are used when all upper or lower teeth have been lost.
Artificial teeth are placed on a pink base (synthetic resin) and are used to restore bite and aesthetics.
Pros
・Replaces missing teeth easily and inexpensively
・Insurance coverage is available
・No surgery required
Cons
・May reduce chewing ability
・Difficult to stabilize the bite
・Might result in problems with some foods that could be chewed before
Denture treatment process
Denture treatment is performed according to the following flow.
① Examination and diagnosis
Examine the cause of tooth loss, tooth alignment, etc. Explain the current situation, problems and treatment options. We will reshape your teeth according to the situation.

② Molding and modeling
We take a mold of the patient’s mouth and make a model of the denture.
③ Denture fabrication
The denture is fabricated from the model.
④ Fitting the denture
Temporary fitting of the fabricated denture and adjustment of fit and discomfort.
⑤ Adjust and fit the finished prosthesis
After the adjustment of the temporary prosthesis is completed, the finished prosthesis is fitted.
Precautions when using dentures
The following precautions should be taken when using dentures:
- Pay attention to the size and hardness of food
- Consult with your doctor and use proper cleaning methods
- Do not sleep with dentures in your mouth
- Do not wash dentures in boiling water
- Do not let them dry out
- Do not subject them to strong shocks
- Do not put them in bleach
- Consult a dentist if dentures do not fit or cause pain
- Do not wrap in tissue to prevent accidental disposal
- See a dentist if you experience any discomfort, such as falling out or loosening.
