What is Invisalign treatment?
Invisalign is a clear aligner system for straightening teeth that is customized by a doctor for each patient based on an individual treatment plan. To date, nearly 50,000 doctors worldwide have been certified to treat patients with Invisalign, and by the end of 2007, over 700,000 patients had been treated with Invisalign. There are numerous publications in clinical journals and reports on Invisalign, many of which have been published in peer-reviewed journals (AJO, JCO, etc.).
Invisalign orthodontic treatment is based on a comprehensive treatment plan for aligning teeth that is created and reviewed on a computer screen using a unique 3D simulation software called ClinCheck. Each treatment plan is also approved by a specialized doctor over the Internet. To faithfully implement the treatment plan, a series of “mouthpieces” are created using a unique CAD/CAM (optical modeling) technology that gradually moves the teeth. Patients wear the mouthpiece for at least 20 hours a day, usually changing it for a new one every two weeks, until the teeth are gradually moved and the treatment goals are achieved.
Advantages of Invisalign Treatment
The benefits of Invisalign treatment include:
Removable and hygienic
With traditional braces, it is difficult to brush your teeth because the brackets are attached to your teeth. This can lead to cavities and other problems. Invisalign has a removable mouthpiece that is convenient and hygienic.
Discreet
Invisalign aligners are thin, clear, invisible mouthpieces. Unlike wire braces, they are invisible. It is almost impossible to be noticed by others.
Less pain and discomfort
Invisalign aligners do not touch any part of the mouth other than the teeth, so there is little to no discomfort or soreness. (Feeling may vary from person to person)
You can get an idea of the results before you start
With Invisalign aligners, the movement of the teeth can be tracked on a computer screen, making it easy for patients to check their progress and estimate how long it will take to achieve their desired results.
Patients control their own tooth movement
Unlike wire braces, where only the dentist can control the movement of the teeth, Invisalign only moves the teeth when the aligner is worn, giving the patient a say in the alignment (20 hours or more is recommended).
Precautions for Invisalign Orthodontics
There are two things to consider before starting Invisalign treatment:
Improving the alignment of your teeth takes time and money
Invisalign treatment tends to be shorter than traditional orthodontic treatment, but it still takes several months to several years.
Wearing the aligner correctly is important
Invisalign must be worn correctly to be effective. It is important to follow your dentist’s instructions and wear your aligner correctly.
The process of Invisalign orthodontics
Invisalign is an orthodontic procedure in which you wear an appliance to move your teeth. It is clear and discreet and can be removed for eating and brushing your teeth.
Consultation with the dentist
The first step is a consultation with the dentist. The dentist will check your teeth alignment and bite, and then explain the need for treatment and the treatment plan.
Intraoral scan
After the consultation, an intraoral scan is performed. An intraoral scan is a method of recording the shape and position of the teeth as digital data using a dental camera.
The intraoral scan allows us to accurately record the shape and position of your teeth. This allows us to create Invisalign aligners with greater precision.
Creation of 3D data
The data from the intraoral scan is used to create 3D data of the teeth. 3D data allows the dentist to see the shape and position of the teeth in three dimensions.
The dentist uses the 3D data to create a treatment plan. The treatment plan determines how far the teeth will be moved and how long it will take to complete the treatment.
Making the aligners
Invisalign aligners are created based on the 3D data. The aligners are clear, removable orthodontic devices. The aligners are designed to apply small forces to move the teeth. The aligners have to be worn as instructed by the dentist to gradually move the teeth.
Periodic check-ups
Once the aligners are in place, the patient has to visit the dentist periodically to check the progress of the treatment. The dentist will check the condition of the aligners and the movement of the teeth, and will replace the aligners if necessary.
Invisalign Treatment Experiences
Here are some testimonials from people who have undergone Invisalign treatment.
・I have improved my teeth alignment and have more confidence in my smile.
・I have a lot of opportunities to be in public for work and I was often concerned about my teeth. After the Invisalign treatment I got more self-confident even in public!
・I had an increased risk of tooth decay and gum disease due to my misaligned teeth. Due to the treatment with Invisalign I could improve the alignment considerable and reduce both risks!
Invisalign is a teeth straightening method that uses a clear mouthpiece. Its discreet, painless, and removable features have made it the treatment of choice for many people. However, it should be noted that it may not be suitable for severe misalignments and there is a risk of losing or breaking the mouthpiece. It is important to choose the best orthodontic method based on your orthodontic needs and your dentist’s instructions.
